In the Middle of a Love Triange with Doug and Deepa
I’ve never met Doug McCune, although I caught a glimpse of him last year at MAX (note: he’s smaller than I thought he would be); and the first time I ever talked to Deepa was at 360Flex when I asked if Gumbonents would support multiple controllers like OpenFlux components do. And yet here I am, in the middle of a love triangle with the aforementioned critically-acclaimed Pultitzer-deserving authors. Deepa professed her undying love with “XXOO” (pictured) which I understand to mean “kiss kiss hug hug”. As I’ve never seen Deepa give a hug OR a kiss to anyone (and is generally quite cold to everyone – especially Matt Chotin), this really shows the depth of her feelings for me. I’m one man among thousands of Flex Developers, and while my knack for data-driven controls DOES set me apart, I would trade all my updateDisplayLists for just one more “XXOO” (pictured) from Deepa.
But then, Doug gave me his heart (pictured). And while Deepa is a Flex guru, Doug is a Flex Machine. And how can I say no to that? Choosing between Deepa and Doug is like choosing between the perfect woman and Brad Pitt. How many of us, as happy as we are in our respective relationships, wouldn’t jump ship for a chance to get with Brad? I know I would! However, unlike the rest of you, I’ve been given the chance to do just that with the Flex world’s Brad Pitt. Doug McCune, you gave me your heart (pictured) and I give you mine (not pictured) in return. Deepa, for this I’m truly sorry. However, if things don’t work out between me and Doug, you can bet I’ll come crawling back to you. And if you tell me I missed my chance… well, I hope my wife will still take me back.
Okay Doug, I’m flipping a coin for which of us gets to lead when we dance. Call it in the air…
This is hands down, one of the funnies Flex-funnies I’ve ever read. Cynergy is getting a funny guy.
Personally, Doug isn’t my type. I think bald is really sexy. I’m holding out hope that Ryan Stewart will notice me someday.
Okay, that first sentence didn’t quite come out the way I expected. I think PixelBender is effecting my brain.
The funniest part of this whole thing is that that’s not even our book. You can see in that image that it’s the Flex 3 Cookbook, which neither Deepa nor I had any part in writing. I’m pretty sure we were at 360|Flex in Atlanta, probably after a few beers, and we were sitting there signing some Flex for Dummies books when I got bored and started grabbing all the other books (regardless of who wrote them) and signing those too. So instead of having a Flex book signed by the authors, you have a Flex book signed by random drunk douchebags. Not sure if that makes it better or worse
I think it makes it better!
I agree. Everybody’s got a book that’s signed by the authors, but how many people have books signed by non-authors?
Plus, as great as Flex for Dummies surely is, I like to think I’m not a Flex dummy. And as great as Noble and Anderson are, they’re no McCune and Subramaniam. So I got the more useful book and the cooler autographs. Best of both worlds!
I was present when this madness not went down. And yes, it was not a “probably after a few beers”, it was a “for sure after a few beers”.
The things you witness when you don’t drink and your heroes do. LOL
